The Minister for Government’s Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has announced new measures by Cabinet to reduce fuel prices and ease transport costs following an emergency cabinet meeting held on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
He revealed that Cabinet has directed the Ministers of Finance and Energy to ensure a drop in fuel prices in the next pricing window through the temporary suspension of some taxes and margins on fuel. Details of the affected taxes are expected to be announced soon.
According to Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the intervention will last for four weeks and may be reviewed depending on developments in the Middle East conflict and movements in global crude oil prices.
He further stated that the Minister for Transport has been directed to fast-track the deployment of 100 newly acquired Metro Mass Transit buses to operate on busy routes across the country.
The Minister added that fares on these buses must remain lower than those charged by private transport operators to provide relief to commuters.
In addition, he indicated that all ministers and senior government appointees have been ordered to strictly comply with President John Dramani Mahama’s directive on the cancellation of fuel allocations and allowances.
The measures are expected to help reduce the impact of rising fuel and transport costs on the public.
