The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has underscored the transformative potential of the Petroleum Hub project, describing it as a flagship initiative capable of reshaping the economic fortunes of the Western Region.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Toni Aubynn, in Sekondi-Takoradi on April 9, 2026, Mr Nelson said the project could unlock new opportunities across multiple sectors, including job creation, infrastructure expansion and industrial growth.
He indicated that the scale of the project positioned it as a major catalyst for long-term development, particularly for communities within the Western Region that stand to benefit directly from increased economic activity.
“The Petroleum Hub project holds so much promise for the Western Region in terms of employment opportunities, infrastructure,” he said.
The Minister welcomed updates from the PHDC Chief Executive on progress made in securing land for the project, noting that approximately 12,300 acres had been acquired under revised arrangements.
He acknowledged that compensation to affected landowners had posed a significant challenge but expressed optimism that ongoing government efforts to resolve outstanding issues would pave the way for construction works to begin.
Mr Nelson further commended Dr Aubynn’s leadership, attributing renewed momentum on the project to his experience and commitment.
“I am particularly impressed with the level of leadership you have shown. It is reassuring to have someone with your experience and commitment at the helm. I am confident you will deliver,” he added.
He also praised the Lands Commission for its role in facilitating land acquisition processes, while stressing the importance of coordination and transparent communication to address lingering concerns.
The meeting formed part of Dr Aubynn’s broader stakeholder engagement tour aimed at building consensus and addressing concerns surrounding the implementation of the Petroleum Hub project, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most ambitious energy infrastructure undertakings.
