The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a nationwide recruitment drive aimed at bringing in a new cohort of trained teachers to strengthen the country’s education system, with applications open for a limited seven-day window.
In a notice issued from its headquarters in Accra, the Service invited qualified graduates with degrees in education or related fields to apply for teaching positions, signalling renewed efforts to address staffing gaps, particularly in underserved communities.
The recruitment targets individuals holding a Bachelor of Education degree or those with relevant academic qualifications supplemented by postgraduate training in education. Applicants are also required to have completed their mandatory national service and be duly licensed by the National Teaching Council.
According to the Service, successful candidates will be expected to adopt modern teaching approaches, including the integration of technology into classroom instruction, while responding to the diverse learning needs of pupils. Emphasis is also placed on continuous professional development, ethical conduct and adherence to national teaching standards.
The job description outlines a strong focus on learner-centred education, encouraging teachers to employ varied assessment methods and support students in developing research and digital literacy skills in line with evolving educational demands.
Prospective applicants must demonstrate effective communication and classroom management abilities, and be prepared to accept postings to deprived districts, a requirement that underscores the Service’s push to ensure equitable distribution of teachers across the country.
The application process is being conducted exclusively online through the GES recruitment portal, where candidates are required to complete forms and upload supporting documents, including academic certificates, proof of national service, a valid teaching licence and identification.
The recruitment window runs from April 10 to April 17, 2026, after which applications will be reviewed as part of the Service’s ongoing efforts to enhance teaching capacity and improve learning outcomes nationwide.
The move comes amid continued calls for investment in teacher quality and deployment, as Ghana seeks to strengthen its education sector to meet the demands of a growing student population and a rapidly changing global learning environment.
