The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced the two robbers to a cumulative 55 years’ imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
They were handed down the sentence on April 10, 2026, over a robbery incident at Asonkore in Obuasi.
The two suspects have been identified by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command as Rashid Adams and Godfred Ampadu.
Rashid was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment, while Godfred was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
A third suspect, Dominic Naazie, who is alleged to have aided the crime, pleaded not guilty and has been remanded into custody to reappear before the court on April 24, 2026.
Robbery
The convicts are reported to have attacked a gold dealer on April 3, 2026, knocking him down with their tricycle.
The victim was then robbed of gold and cash.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the suspects and the retrieval of the stolen gold, as well as a vehicle believed to have been purchased with proceeds from the robbery.
In a statement, the Command assured the public of its continued commitment to combating violent crime in the region and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
