Six men have been arraigned before the Circuit Court in Accra, for an alleged robbery incident of a 12.5kg gold worth fourteen million, three hundred and eighty seven thousand ninety six Ghana cedis (GHC 14,387,096 ) at a Jewelry shop located on Adabraka, Accra.
The accused persons are alleged to have also made away with GhC 400,000 during the alleged robbery. They have pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery and have been remanded to police custody, after their attempt to secure bail, failed.
The accused persons are Salim Muhammed, also known as Fariwata; Alhassan Illiasu, also known as Arab Man; Hamza Agerego, also known as Lambert or Nene Bowku; and Abdul Samed Bonsiabu Larry, also known as Touch.
The others are Fatao Ibrahim, also known as Motorway, and Abubarkar Sadique, also known as Fifty Cents. The six men have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, as well as the substantive charge of robbery.
Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, narrating the facts of the case to the court, said on July 27, 2024, the complainant, a businessman who is the owner of a jewelry shop, went to the shop in the morning and closed at about 5:00 pm after his secretary had arrived with some money. According to the facts, minutes after that, the accused persons who were heavily armed with AK47 Assault rifles arrived at the shop on three motorbikes.
Prosecution claims, the accused persons at gun point forcefully ordered the workers to leave the shop amidst firing of gunshots.
The court heard that, the accused persons allegedly robbed their victims of cash to the sum GHC400, 000.00 and 12.5kg of gold valued GH¢14,387,096.00.
Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer said the accused persons fled the shop with the items as they continued to fire gunshots to scare the victims and residents to run for their lives. In a similar development prosecution told the court the police were on the lookout for the accused persons for allegedly committing a similar crime at the same CABEST Jewellery shop on November 2, 2024.
On November 20, 2025, based on intelligence by the police, the first accused was arrested at a medical facility in Ashaiman. Further investigation led to the arrest of Iliyasu and Agerego on January 7, 2026 at Ashaiman.
The prosecutor said a search at the residence of the accused persons, led to the retrieval of 43 rounds of AK 47 Assault Rifle ammunition, 249 BB Cartridges, two pump Action guns, four police bullet proof vests, a pair of black police boots and a Gota hand set. Iliyasu is said to have claimed ownership of the items during interrogation. The rest of accused persons were later arrested all in relation to the same case.
The prosecution said the six men were identified by eye witnesses during an identification parade at police CID Headquarters in Accra.
The accused persons are expected back in court on April 27, 2026.
