The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) says it will begin effecting the arrest and prosecuting individuals found in possession of vehicles bearing fake, forged, or expired DV plates and DP stickers from May 4, 2026.
This action follows a clamp down on the use of expired 2025 DV plates, forged 2026 DV plates, and expired DP stickers, which took effect on March 24, 2026.
In a statement, it reported that since the start of the exercise in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, the DVLA’s Compliance Team had undertaken targeted operations across various locations.
These initial efforts, it said, focused primarily on the removal of non-compliant plates and stickers.
However, it observes continued non-compliance by some vehicle users.
In light of this, the DVLA intends to escalate its enforcement measures by effecting arrests and prosecuting offenders in accordance with the law.
According to DVLA, it is unlawful to possess or use forged or fake trade licences, including DV and DP plates and stickers under Regulation 23(11) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI. 2180).
