Ghanaian-owned pain and neurorehab clinic opens in Dubai

A Ghanaian medical entrepreneur has expanded his footprint into the Middle East with the opening of a specialised pain and neurological rehabilitation facility in Dubai, marking a notable step in the growing international presence of Ghanaian-led healthcare services.

The Philanx Pain and Neurorehab Clinic has begun operations in the Business Bay area after securing regulatory approval from the Dubai Health Authority on March 17, 2026. The facility is the first Ghanaian-owned clinic in Dubai dedicated to pain management and neurorehabilitation.

The clinic was officially inaugurated on April 15 by Ghana’s Consul General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Grace El Mahmoud Marabe, alongside Abdul-Jalil Sigli Yakubu Abdulai, in a ceremony that highlighted the expanding role of Ghanaian professionals in global healthcare delivery.

Founder of the clinic, Dr Philans Cosmos Ankrah, said the decision to establish the facility in Dubai was driven by both personal and strategic considerations, following earlier success in the Caribbean.

“I have a strong connection with Dubai and currently a Dubai resident. Following my success with the Philanx establishment in the Cayman Islands, where I run two clinics, I decided to establish a similar facility to help manage the pain needs right here in Dubai,” he said.

Dr Ankrah explained that the clinic is designed to address a critical gap in healthcare by supporting patients who require structured rehabilitation after initial treatment, particularly in systems where access delays can hinder recovery.

“Philanx clinic fills the gap between acute medical care such as hospital stays or GP visits and a patient’s return to full functional independence. It bridges the need for rapid, specialized, and personalized rehabilitation, particularly when other health systems have long waiting times,” he noted.
