The Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyere East, Mavis Nkansah-Boadu, has intensified efforts to consolidate grassroots support ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal elections by covering the cost of nomination forms for polling station executives.
The intervention, estimated at GH¢10,000, is widely seen as a strategic move to strengthen party unity at the base as the NPP prepares for a series of internal elections that will shape its organisational structure ahead of future national contests.
The party’s electoral calendar begins with polling station elections in mid-May, followed by electoral area contests in June and constituency-level elections in July, before culminating in regional polls in August. These processes are considered critical in determining internal influence, mobilisation capacity and delegate alignment within the party.
For Ms Nkansah-Boadu, who is serving her third term as MP, the stakes are particularly significant. Although Afigya Sekyere East remains a stronghold for the NPP, emerging interest from potential challengers is expected to test her dominance, making early grassroots engagement a key political strategy.
Her decision also underscores the importance of internal party structures in Ghana’s political system, where control at the polling station level often translates into stronger mobilisation and influence over parliamentary candidacies.
In a brief statement, she said: “It is my desire to always support the base and consolidate our gains”.
Beyond her support for party activities, the MP’s political standing has been reinforced by a record of constituency development projects spanning infrastructure, education, healthcare and youth empowerment initiatives since her entry into Parliament in 2017.
