Former Pro Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Ellis Owusu-Dabo, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR).

He formally informed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace on April 22, 2026, when he led the Board on a courtesy visit.

“I wanted to inform Nana before he found out from the news personally,” he said.

Prof Owusu-Dabo also informed Otumfuo about the end of the tenure of the current Director of the Centre, Prof Richard Odame Phillips.

“Today will be the last time he will come here in his capacity as the Director,” he stated, indicating that processes are underway for the Board to decide on the next Director.

In his submission, Prof Phillips expressed immense gratitude to the King for his counsel, direction and support throughout his tenure.

Otumfuo patted him for his Service to the KCCR in the last couple of years, while testifying to his commitment and dedication.

His Majesty expressed his expectation of a replacement that is similarly competent to man the Centre as soon as possible.

The Asantehene also highlighted the enormous benefits the KCCR had brought to the Region and Ghana, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He commended stakeholders, including the Bernhard Nocht Institute, for their continuous partnership and support and urged them to advance it.

Among the delegation were other members of the Advisory Board, including Prof. Mrs Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Juergen May, Chairman of BNITM Foundation, Dr Denise Dekker, Chairman of Committee on Research in the Tropics at BNITM and Dr Adam Taher Hafez, the Director for Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health.
