The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced detailed schedules of planned power outages across several communities in the Teshie-Nungua enclave as it undertakes a major transformer upgrade at the area’s primary substation.

The exercise, scheduled to run from Monday, April 27 to Thursday, April 30, 2026, will involve phased electricity interruptions affecting a wide stretch of neighbourhoods in Teshie, Nungua and adjoining areas.

Communities affected

ECG indicated that the outages will impact multiple locations including Grada Estates, Century Road, Teshie Zongo, Tsui Bleoo, Abolebu, Okpoi Gonno, Agblezaa, Manet Court Estates, Crescent Estates and parts of Nungua.

Other key areas listed include the Teshie Cluster of Schools, Teshie Police Station, Lekma Hospital, Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly enclave, Teshie Roman School, Manwuase, Maami Beach, Teshie Cemetery area and the International China Mall vicinity, among several surrounding communities.

Rotational schedule over four days

According to ECG, the interruptions will be carried out in rotational groups labelled A to E, with each group experiencing outages lasting between five and six hours, depending on the phase of work.

On the first day, April 27, outages will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until 2:00 p.m. across multiple zones, followed by additional phases from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and from 6:00 p.m. to midnight affecting selected areas.

On April 28, the exercise will continue through the night and into the day, with scheduled interruptions from midnight to 6:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m. to midday, midday to 6:00 p.m., and again from 6:00 p.m. to midnight, covering different groups of communities in each phase.

Further rotations are expected to continue into April 29 and April 30 as engineers complete the installation works.

Upgrade aimed at long-term stability

The outages are to facilitate the replacement of an existing 20/26 MVA transformer with a higher capacity 30/39 MVA unit at the Teshie-Nungua Primary Substation.

ECG said the upgrade is expected to boost supply capacity, reduce system overloads and equipment failures, and improve voltage stability across the enclave.

Public urged to plan ahead

The company acknowledged the inconvenience the outages may cause but emphasised that the works are necessary to ensure a more reliable power supply in the long term.

Customers in the affected areas have been advised to take note of the schedules and make the necessary arrangements during the period.

ECG added that further updates and detailed breakdowns of the outage timetable would be shared through its official communication channels.
