The Chairman for the World-Meets-in-Ghana Executive Dinner Ball’, Sir Sam Jonah, has stated that the commemorative Gold Coin unveiled in honour of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was minted to express gratitude and recognize his legacy in his lifetime.

Addressing the dinner ball on April 24, 2026, to mark the King’s 27th enstoolment anniversary of the Monarch, the businessman said the gesture was deliberate to celebrate greatness when it can still be acknowledged.

“The commemorative gold coin that honours His Majesty is not merely a beautiful object, though it certainly is,” he told the gathering. “It is a statement that this community, this world, chooses to recognise greatness in the living, to say thank you while the ears that need to hear are still open.”

The business mogul, a respected figure in the global mining industry, explained that too often societies wait until leaders have passed before appreciating their impact. The Gold Coin, he said, breaks that pattern.

“The coin and all the artworks unveiled tonight will go into homes, offices, and treasuries around the world, bearing with them a very simple message: that peace is possible. That one person, in one chair, with sufficient wisdom and moral courage, can take the skill,” Sir Sam Jonah said.

Symbol of Peace and Legacy
The Gold Coin was unveiled as part a few years ago by EO3 Group and its partners.

The commemorative coin is tied the tribute to the Asantehene’s record of peacemaking, conflict resolution, and commitment to education.

He cited Otumfuo’s role in resolving the 23-year Effiduase chieftaincy dispute in seven sittings, his mediation in Dagbon, and his influence in ensuring peaceful political transitions in 2012 and 2016.

“A king who reduces the load of the judiciary in a country not short of disputes — that is no small contribution,” he noted, referencing former Chief Justice Kwesi Anin Yeboah’s observation on Otumfuo’s interventions.

The event was attended by high-profile personalities including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Olu of Warri Kingdom in Nigeria, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, and his wife, Her Royal Highness Olori Atuwatse III.
