MC Yaa Yeboah has ignited debate over how some churches treat the people who keep their ministries running, accusing certain leaders of exploiting unpaid labour while collecting offerings from congregants.
Her remarks came during a conversation on compulsory tithing on UTV’s United Showbiz on April 25, 2026. In the course of the discussion, she questioned the way financial contributions are managed in some churches and pushed back against expectations placed on members who serve without compensation.
She maintained that tithing, in its true sense, was never designed as a pipeline for enriching church leadership. Instead, she said, it should serve as a support system for vulnerable members of the community and those who actively work within the church.
“The main concept of tithes should go to help the less-privileged in the church, widows, orphans, the aged, and even the workers in the church,” she said.
Turning to the issue of unpaid church workers, Yeboah sharply criticised the practice, arguing that denying people wages for their labour contradicts basic principles of fairness.
“So, if I go to a church and the pastor is preaching that if you are working in the house of the Lord you are not supposed to be paid, then you are an armed robber,” she added.
She also took aim at sermons that link financial giving to divine favour, describing such messaging as coercive and misleading.
“I have seen a video of a pastor saying that if you do not pay your tithes, God will not answer your prayers. That pastor is wicked,” she stated.
Expanding on her position, Yeboah challenged the belief that tithes must pass through church authorities to hold spiritual value. She suggested that direct acts of charity align more closely with what she interprets as the purpose of giving.
“From reading the Bible, if I save a tenth of my money and I use it to help beggars and widows on the street, God will answer my prayers,” MC Yaa Yeboah stated.
