Energy Minister Dr John Abdulai Jinapor has lauded the technical teams at the Akosombo Substation for pushing through demanding conditions to get the power system back on track after the recent fire that knocked out supply to several areas.

He made the remarks during a visit to the facility, where he met engineers and frontline staff overseeing the recovery effort. The minister noted that repairs to the affected control systems were advancing steadily and expressed confidence in the pace of work.

The blaze had wiped out more than 1,000 megawatts from the national grid, leaving operators scrambling to manage a significant shortfall in electricity supply.

Despite the pressure, Dr Jinapor said the response from the engineers had been decisive, crediting them for helping to stabilise the situation and move the system toward normalcy.

“I commend our dedicated engineers and technical teams for their professionalism, courage, and tireless commitment in addressing this critical national challenge,” he said.

He also used the visit to reaffirm government backing for the ongoing restoration work, stressing that resources would continue to be made available to support the teams.

Dr Jinapor added that steps are being taken to shore up the system against future setbacks, assuring the public that efforts to secure a more reliable power supply remain a priority.
