NILEE Consult, has marked its fifth anniversary in business with a donation and mental health awareness initiative at the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital.

Items donated including cartons of beverages, packs of tissues, detergents, bleach, food and water are expected to contribute to improving the welfare of patients at the facility.

Beyond the donation, the event also featured a mental health awareness campaign aimed at educating the public and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health conditions in Ghana.

The initiative highlighted the importance of empathy, support, and access to care for individuals living with mental health challenges.

Speaking at a short presentation in Accra last Friday, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NILEE Consult, Amanda Akushie, the donation formed part of her outfit’s broader commitment to giving back to society, particularly in supporting mental health institutions.

She called on corporate organisations to prioritise mental health, stressing that employee well-being was critical to productivity and sustained growth.

She explained that mental health remains a growing concern in the workplace, with an estimated 65 per cent of formal sector workers experiencing significant stress due to heavy workloads, toxic work environments and high performance expectations.

“As organisations, we work with people, and organisations are made up of people. Mental health is not just a social responsibility; it is a human responsibility,” she said.

Ms Akushi noted that mental health was often overlooked despite its direct impact on productivity, employee satisfaction and overall organisational performance.

She explained that the company’s newly launched “NILEE Impact Initiative”, which focuses on mental health, was designed to drive awareness and support within the health sector and beyond.

“Patient experience matters, especially in the health sector. That is why we chose to support mental health. It is an area that needs dignity, attention and human-centred care,” she added.

Support

Management of the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital, which received the donation, commended the company for combining both donation and advocacy, describing it as a meaningful step towards supporting mental health care in the country.

They called for increased support from corporate institutions and the public to improve conditions at the facility.

They also emphasised the need for intensified public education to help reduce stigma associated with mental health and encourage more people to seek help.

The hospital indicated that it continues to rely heavily on limited resources and external support to manage referrals and provide quality care.

The NILEE Impact Initiative is expected to sustain advocacy efforts and promote collective action towards building a more inclusive and supportive society.
