An official of the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) is set to be enstooled as the Paramount Chief of the Gyadam Traditional Area.

He was identified as Maxwell Yaw Oppong and was among three individuals who expressed interest in ascending the vacant stool.

The other two were identified as Kwadwo Aboagye and Thomas Kofi Badu.

Initial Division
At first glance, Maxwell appeared to be the least favoured among the three candidates.

The Queenmother of Gyadam chose Aboagye, while the Abusuapanin backed Badu.

The conflicting choices of the two leaders created division and misunderstanding, stalling the process of selecting a successor for the vacant stool.

Otumfuo’s Intervention for Peace
At the Asanteman Council meeting on May 4, 2026, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, intervened and set aside the preferences of both the Queenmother and the Abusuapanin.

His Majesty decided to give the stool to Maxwell Yaw Oppong, noting that it was the only path to restoring peace in the traditional area.

“There will be no peace if we accept the choice of the Queenmother, neither will there be peace if we accept the choice of the family head,” Otumfuo stated before the Council.

The Asantehene further directed the kingmakers of Gyadam to perform the necessary rites for his enstoolment within two weeks.
