The Abusuapanin of the Akrodie Traditional Council has formally presented one Kwabena Acheampong as nominee for the vacant Akrodie stool to the Asanteman Council.
The presentation was made on May 4, 2026, before the Council presided over by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, at the Manhyia Palace.
Unanimous Royal Endorsement
The Abusuapanin told the Council that the nominee was selected by consensus among the royal houses of Akrodie.
The decision received the full backing of the female royals, who are central to succession matters in Asante custom.
“We chose him for the Family Head,” the women who play a decisive role in identifying eligible candidates for male stools, unanimously confirmed before Otumfuo and the Council.
Otumfuo’s Directive
Upon hearing the confirmation, the Asantehene directed the kingmakers of Akrodie to take over the process and perform all customary rites required for the enstoolment.
His Majesty ordered that the kingmakers return to the Asanteman Council in two weeks to report on the progress and proceed with the next stage of the process.
The directive signals Otumfuo’s satisfaction with the unity shown by the Akrodie royals and clears the path for the installation of a substantive Paramount Chief.
Next Steps
With the nominee now formally introduced, the kingmakers will undertake the necessary customary rites, including confinement and oath-swearing to the town.
Once completed, the candidate will be presented again to Otumfuo and the Council for the final enstoolment rites.
