The Attorney-General has withdrawn all charges against former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Abdul-Wahab, his wife Faiza Wuni, and three others.
The case was officially discontinued at the High Court in Accra on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, bringing the proceedings to an end.
In a Facebook post, Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai explained that the decision is as a result of the discovery of what he described as fresh evidence. He said the move would allow for a fair and faster trial in line with the Constitution.
However, shortly after the charges were withdrawn, the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) re-arrested Abdul-Wahab and his wife.
The accused persons — Abdul-Wahab, Faiza Wuni, Richard Sam-Asante, The Aludiba Foundation, and Energy Partners Limited were facing 21 charges. These included stealing, money laundering, defrauding by false pretences, conspiracy, and causing financial loss to the state.
According to earlier court documents, Abdul-Wahab was alleged to have diverted more than GH¢50 million of NAFCO funds to a supplier and transferred additional funds to a company he owned. His wife was also accused of laundering millions of cedis through her business.
Lawyers for the accused persons have criticized the Attorney-General’s decision. Counsel for Abdul-Wahab, Godfred Yeboah Dame, questioned the handling of the case, although he did not oppose the withdrawal. He described it as a relief but raised concerns about the re-arrest.
Another lawyer, Augustine Obuor, also described the move as an abuse of the Attorney-General’s discretionary powers. He argued that the case was close to completion and should not have been withdrawn.
The Attorney-General’s Office had earlier said the alleged offences caused significant financial loss to the state. It remains unclear whether new charges will be filed following the latest developments.
