The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has interdicted a serving police inspector over allegations of defilement.

The officer, Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, who is stationed at the Mamponteng District, is under investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at Agona District.

A statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Command in Mampong on Friday, May 9, 2026, said a complaint against the officer was lodged on November 4, 2025.

The statement said Inspector Afriyie later reported voluntarily to the Agona DOVVSU on February 20, 2026, where a cautioned statement was taken from him.

According to the statement, the officer denied the allegations and was granted enquiry bail with instructions to report to investigators periodically.

The statement explained that the interdiction was an administrative process pending the outcome of investigations.

It added that the Command would continue investigations into the matter and update the public when necessary.

The statement was signed by ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, Staff Officer and Acting Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti North Regional Commander.
