The Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to Ghana, H.E. Assiélou Félix Tanon, has said the support of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has significantly lightened the burden of his diplomatic mandate.
During a courtesy call on May 8, 2026, he described the monarch’s support as timely and impactful.
According to him, Otumfuo played a key role in helping him integrate into the Ghanaian community, which was new to him at the time of his appointment.
He used the occasion to express appreciation to the King and convey birthday wishes on His Majesty’s 76th birthday.
“May marks my third anniversary in Ghana. When I came here, I knew no one. Though my father was a king, I was orphaned. The role of an ambassador is quite demanding, but the Asantehene’s assistance has made my work much easier,” he said.
“I heard it was the Asantehene’s birthday, so I came to pay homage because he is my father. I had planned to come on May 6, but I was held up. I thank God for this opportunity,” he added.
He also presented a special Baoulé cloth as a gift to the King.
The Asantehene, acknowledging Ambassador Tanon’s dual identity as both Asante and a diplomat, said his respect had earned him the goodwill he enjoys.
“The Baoulé in Côte d’Ivoire are my children and grandchildren. He has shown respect and honor while living among us. Though he came to represent the government of Côte d’Ivoire, he recognizes this place as his root,” Otumfuo said.
The King also commended the ambassador’s efforts in strengthening relations between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
“It was during your tenure that President Ouattara came here to visit me. He has also brought many people here. It affirms love and brotherhood. We pray that the fraternal relations with Côte d’Ivoire endure forever. Extend my regards to President Ouattara,” he said.
