Six persons arrested for illegally dumping refuse at the Otumfuo Roundabout in Kejetia have been convicted by the Prempeh Assembly District Court.
The court, presided over by Her Worship Deborah Gyaawa Donkoh, handed down the verdict on Monday, 11th May 2026. All six offenders pleaded guilty to the sanitation offence.
Each convict was sentenced to pay 100 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢1,200.00, or in default serve a 10-day prison term.
Five of the offenders have paid their fines, while one—identified as Ebenezer Atakorah—failed to pay and will therefore serve the 10-day prison sentence.
The offenders were arrested around 5:30 a.m. by Metro Guards personnel of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) during an operation targeting illegal dumping at the Otumfuo Roundabout.
Warns
Following the convictions, the KMA reminded the public that indiscriminate dumping of waste is a punishable offence under the Assembly’s Sanitation Bye-Laws.
The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing sanitation regulations to keep Kumasi clean, safe, and healthy for all.
Residents are urged to dispose of waste only at designated dumping sites and to report sanitation offenders to the authorities.
