The Footsoldiers Association of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the party grassroots and the youth of the country to be patient with the government as it works to open the system to create jobs.
“It will take some effort to correct the system to create the kind of opportunities that will employ the youth in large numbers.
That is why the government needs the patience and support of the public to deliver,” the President of the association, Dr Okpolu William Ahamazie, said in an interview with the Daily Graphic.
He said the performance of the current administration had been impressive from the standpoint of macroeconomic indicators, and that he was hopeful that these would translate into jobs for the youth in the shortest possible time.
“Inflation has improved, the cost of living has improved and food prices are more stable.
No one can deny the improvement in the system in less than 18 months of this government’s rule.
What is left is the take-off to the next level of economic consolidation,” Dr Ahamazie said.
Dr Ahamazie consequuently lauded the Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, for his words of reassurance to the grassroots as he embarked on a ‘Thank You Tourism’ across the country.
He said Mr Asiedu Nketiah had been a calming voice as the party’s lower base awaited the full rollout of the government’s programmes and intentions for the country.
Concerns
The President of the association told the Daily Graphic that the party Chairman’s tour of the country had offered the opportunity for the grassroots to share their concerns with the party leadership.
“He gave us a channel to discuss matters of concern to the footsoldiers. It is an opportunity that does not come easily,” Dr Ahamazie said.
“This is how we are able to contribute, through feedback and ideas, to the governance process, ” he added.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah, a party stalwart who was General Secretary for many years before the party returned to power under his chairmanship, has been touring the country to touch base with the party rank and file.
His interactions with the grassroots have largely touched the core elements of party base concerns.
Patience
Indeed, he has urged party faithful to be patient for economic opportunities as the government works its way out of the inherited difficulties.
These have not gone unnoticed, as Mr Asiedu Nketiah’s engagements with the party across the country have been considered a full campaign for the presidential slot.
But Dr Ahamazie said the party base was most grateful to the National Chairman for making the effort to interact with the grassroots and to listen to their concerns.
