Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Elikplim Akurugu, marked this year’s Mother’s Day celebration with a compassionate outreach to mothers and women receiving treatment at the Ga East Municipal Hospital and Taifa Polyclinic.
The lawmaker visited the maternity wards, sick bays, and female wards of the two health facilities where she distributed hampers and cash donations to nursing mothers, women on admission, and aged women undergoing treatment.
The gesture, according to the MP, was to celebrate mothers for their sacrifices and also extend love and support to women facing health challenges during the Mother’s Day season.
The visit brought smiles and emotional moments as Elikplim Akurugu interacted personally with patients, congratulated mothers who had safely delivered babies, and encouraged women receiving medical care not to lose hope.
At the maternity wards, newly delivered mothers received assorted hampers containing baby essentials and personal items to support them and their newborns.
The MP also made cash donations to some of the beneficiaries.
Beyond the maternity units, the Dome-Kwabenya legislator extended the donations to women admitted at the sick bay wards, including elderly women receiving treatment.
Speaking during the visit, she emphasised the important role mothers play in society and the need to continuously appreciate and support them.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful mothers and especially to the brave mothers who have just welcomed new babies into the world. Today, as we share these hampers, we celebrate your strength, love, sacrifice, and the priceless gift of motherhood,” she stated.
“May God bless you and your little ones with good health, joy, and endless happiness. Congratulations once again, and enjoy your special day,” she added.
According to her, Mother’s Day should not only be about celebration but also an opportunity to show compassion to women who may be going through difficult moments, especially those battling illness in hospitals.
She noted that many women continue to carry the burden of caring for families even while dealing with personal challenges, making it important for society to support and appreciate them.
Health personnel at both facilities commended the MP for the initiative, describing the visit as timely and impactful.
Some nurses indicated that the donations and personal interaction from the MP boosted the morale of patients and nursing mothers.
One nursing mother at the Ga East Municipal Hospital expressed appreciation for the kind gesture.
“We are very grateful for this surprise visit. It means a lot to us, especially on a day like this. God bless Honourable Elikplim Akurugu for remembering us,” she said.
