A Ghanaian living abroad recently shared a thought-provoking perspective online, challenging the common belief that owning properties signifies success. Instead, he emphasized the importance of family above all else.
According to him a good or responsible life is about the way a person “organises his family”.
“The fact that you have properties doesn’t mean you have lived a good life. A good life involves family. My father looked after my siblings and I so I can say that he lived a good life. When he died, none of his children exempted himself. But some people think it is about buildinhg houses or having properties.”
The individual conveyed a powerful message questioning traditional views of achievement. Contrary to the idea that wealth equals success, he argued that merely possessing material possessions does not bring true fulfillment.
Instead, the expatriate stressed the significance of strong family bonds, asserting that nurturing relationships with loved ones should take precedence over acquiring wealth.
His message struck a chord with many online, sparking conversations about cultural values and personal fulfillment.

Meg – What he is saying is true in a way cos imagine his life when he’s 90 years? Will houses or cars take care of you? Your kids may prolly throw you into a care home and visit you monthly if they remember to. There’s nothing more beautiful than living your old age with your family.
Frimpong – Ebe deep mmom but me de3 ago search money and property first
Henri – Some people won’t think deeply into what he’s saying and they will comment nonfa
Forson – That is very true though
Kwadwo – Ain’t there people who’ve both. Does it have to be mutually exclusive? However, if there was an order to choose one, having properties without “family” is better than having “family” without properties because it’s never pleasant to have a family you can’t secure their future.
Ace – Family means your immediate family/nuclear family. NOT extended- like sisters or brothers. They are worthless as age passes by. Build your own family and acquire properties and most above all plan and make a will. What the man is talking about is useless
Kin1gh – Siå sɛm. if you’re using only responsibilities us father and husband us a yardstick to measure successful life then what about those they can’t give birth and due to that marriage isn’t working he or she. Fine U can say to U that’s how successful life means
Vigilant Gh – Marrying the right god fearing woman regardless of race is the key here. The right woman is described perfectly in the bible. What he won’t say is his lying and cheating which probably drove that woman that way
Approchruz – But I don’t think what he’s saying is too late for him … he can get a woman in Ghana now a build that aspect he believes in
