In the Ablekuma West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, a harrowing incident has left a 16-year-old boy, Bright Lartey, fighting for his life after being brutally attacked and beaten by a mob.
The alleged reason for the assault was an accusation of stealing someone’s manhood.
The incident happened in Dansoman Shaibu last Friday, April 5, 2024. The younger aunt of Bright, a special needs boy, took care of him when his mother Linda Yeboah departed for work.
When Linda her mother got home, she found that Bright was gone. When she asked, she discovered that he had gone to play with friends, which was not unusual.
However, Linda’s hope turned to horror when she received a notification on her phone—a video depicting her son being brutally assaulted.
Rushing to the scene, she found Bright had already been taken to the police station.
According to witnesses, Bright had allegedly asked for money to buy water and was accused of stealing someone’s manhood.
The severity of the assault left Bright with a head injury, rendering him unable to walk and in excruciating pain.
Bright’s father, Ebenezer Lartey, revealed that medical examinations revealed two fractured fingers and internal bleeding in his head. He urgently requires head surgery, but the family is grappling with financial constraints.
This tragic incident adds to the concerning trend of mob violence fueled by false accusations of missing manhood in parts of the country.
