Tension gripped the community of Ningo-Prampram as the Ga Asafoatse, acting on behalf of the traditional authorities of the Ga State, intervened to halt a church activity for violating the one-month ban on noise-making.
Worshippers at a local church were left stunned as the Ga Asafoatse, accompanied by a group of young men, entered the premises and brought the proceedings to an abrupt halt.
They siezed musical instruments.
As per the Ga Traditional Council, the annual ban on drumming and noise-making is in effect from Monday, May 6th, 2024, to Thursday, June 6th, 2024.
The ban will cover all forms of noise-making, including the use of loudspeakers, drums, tambourines, clapping of hands, and any other musical instruments within the Ga State.
During this period, merry-making and funeral gatherings are prohibited.
A task force, in collaboration with REGSEC and various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, has been established to coordinate with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to monitor and ensure compliance with the ban.
Individuals found contravening the ban will be prosecuted.
