A man claiming to be the private investigator of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has been apprehended by authorities at the Manhyia Palace and subsequently handed over to the police.
The man, Kwadwo Amoah Ampong who also presented himself as a fetish priest and the Executive Director of “Corruption Combat International,” is accused of spreading defamatory statements about seven nobles of the Asantehene, inciting public outrage against them.
The individual, known as Ampong, allegedly utilized various platforms, including traditional and social media, to malign traditional authorities such as Otumfuo Buabasa Nana Aduboffuor Kwaw II, Pakyi No. 1hene, Adumakaasekesehene, Sabronumhene, Donyinahene, Asutwehene, and Jachiehene. His accusations included allegations of illegal mining activities, illegal and multiple sales of land, and embezzlement of funds, all of which were unfounded.
The situation culminated on Thursday, May 16, 2024, when Ampong was brought before a traditional court led by Otumfuo Saamanhene Nana Osei Kwaku III.
During the proceedings, the accused nobles were given the opportunity to present their cases and evidence against Ampong.
Several victims reported that Ampong had visited their residences, falsely claiming he was commissioned by Otumfuo to conduct investigations.
At other times, he masqueraded as a fetish priest, and when confronted about his deceit, he bizarrely claimed to be a twin.
Under interrogation by the traditional court, Ampong admitted to fabricating his identity as a twin and as a private investigator. Following his confession, he was handed over to the police for further investigation and potential charges.
