Ras Kuuku, a renowned reggae artiste, has expressed his shock and disappointment at Gyakie’s snub at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
He firmly believes that Gyakie deserved to win the Female Vocal Performance award, citing her impressive work in the music industry, particularly her collaboration with JBEE, a talented rapper from North London.
Despite her significant contributions, Gyakie was not even nominated for the award, which was ultimately won by Queendalyn Yurglee.
Ras Kuuku questioned the logic behind Gyakie’s snub, asking why she had “nothing” to show for her hard work and dedication to her craft. He made his comments in a conversation with DJ Slim on the Daybreak Hitz show monitored by News & Vibes.
“I think Gyakie should have won the Female Vocalist of the Year. She did a lot of work last year, especially with the song she featured the boy who is coming from the UK. She did well but she had nothing, why?” he asked
The prestigious Best Female Vocal Performance award, which recognizes the solo female artiste with the most outstanding vocal delivery, was contested by a talented group of ladies – Niiella, Titi Owusu, Adina, Abiana, Lordina The Soprano, and the eventual winner, Queendalyn Yurglee.
The TGMA has a rich history of honoring exceptional talent, with past winners of the Artiste of the Year award including Black Sherif (2023), Kidi (2022), and Diana Hamilton (2021). This year’s nominees were a diverse and talented bunch, but Stonebwoy’s impressive achievements set him apart as he won Artiste of the Year award.
