Mr. Opoku Ware, Head of Security at the Manhyia Palace, has revealed that Kofi Kinaata is one of the few artistes the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, regularly listens to.
On June 13th, when Kinaata was invited as a guest on Opemsuo Radio, as monitored by News & Vibes, the head of security, who is usually with the king on outings, couldn’t wait to break the news to him, as he himself was also a fan of the artiste.
“I know this is a secret, but… I am Otumfuo’s bodyguard and go with him everywhere. He listens to your songs and asks who sang them, and we mention your name, Kofi Kinaata. He asks where you are from, and we say Taadi, and he says, ‘Ah, is he old or young?’ And we say he is as young as us, and he says, ‘This man speaks wisdom oo.’ And we tell him, ‘Yes, we are all his fans and follow him,’ and he says, ‘Ei, he has good music because he has good messages.'”
Kinaata expressed his appreciation to the King.
After completing high school, Kofi Kinaata showcased his rap skills in the Melody FM (Kasahari) competition in 2009, securing a notable second runner-up position. This achievement paved the way for his entry into the High Grade Family, a renowned music collective founded by Samini, where he received valuable mentorship and gained widespread recognition.
In 2011, he released his debut single, “Obi Ne Ba,” marking the beginning of his successful music career. Four years later, in December 2015, he dropped the hit song “Made in Taadi,” which resonated deeply with the Fante community, particularly during their annual “Ankos” festival.
Kofi Kinaata’s unique style, characterized by intricate rhyme schemes, humorous Fante rap, and incorporation of traditional African proverbs in his native language, has made him a standout artist, entertaining and educating fans alike.
