(Video) Group accuses Okudzeto Ablakwa of targeting Asante and Akan politicians
A group known as the Ashanti Democratic Youth for Justice has made a startling accusation against the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa. The group claims that the MP has a history of targeting politicians of Asante and Akan descent, including Rev. Kusi Boateng, Attorney-General Godfred Dame, Bryan Acheampong, and others.
In a video circulating on social media, the group warned the MP to cease his alleged attacks on Asante and Akan politicians, stating that they will not tolerate such behavior. They accused Ablakwa of using his platform to consistently attack and disparage politicians from the Asante and Akan regions, including former President John Kufuor and his own party member, Tony Adu.
The group’s spokesperson said, “We will not sit idly by while Hon. Ablakwa continues to use his position to target and disparage our leaders. We demand an end to this behavior and warn him to respect the dignity of our people.”
The accusations have sparked a heated debate in the online sphere, with many calling for calm. The MP’s office has yet to respond to the allegations.
“Why do you keep disgracing Asantes and Akans in general. Wei ani hwɛ hen?” asked one social media user.
Adɛn Ashanti democratic youth,” another user wrote. “Instead of being embarrassed that people from your ethnic group are stealing from the nation, engaging in illegalities and other corrupt deeds thus tarnishing your image, you’re here blaming the one exposing them. How badly have we sunk !!”
Some users pushed back against the group’s accusations, stating that they do not represent the views of all Ashanti youth. “It’s just some group of people who have given themselves a name but mind you they are speaking for themselves not for the entire youth in Asanteman…big difference…,” one user wrote.
Others criticized the group for making the issue a tribal sentiment. “You people are now making it a tribal sentiment???? What has corruption got to do with ethnicity/tribe???” asked one user.
The debate continued with some users expressing frustration with the group’s stance. “Some Ashantis and hypocrisy. Ghana can never develop with this pple. If it were another tribe, by now they are everywhere. U pple should rather fight for independence. No one will tolerate ur useless nature so far as you are still part of the country.”
