The police are still searching for two suspects in connection with a horrific acid attack that left a young woman with severe burns and disfigurement.
Martha Karikari Asiamah, 23, was attacked on January 27, 2020, by her ex-boyfriend, Prince Amankwah, and a neighbor, Bobo. The duo allegedly threw acid on Martha, causing extensive damage to her face, neck, and chest.
Martha, who has undergone 14 surgeries, including skin grafts and eye surgeries, is still seeking justice. The police have been criticized for their slow progress in apprehending the suspects, who remain at large.
She indicated that the police seem uninterested in investigating her case as nothing positive has been achieved. The mother of Prince who was arrested also refused to give any information about his son’s hideout.
Surprising, he found out later after the incident that his ex paid his neighbour GHC100 to carry out the act against her.
The attack is believed to have been motivated by a failed relationship and a rejected proposal for a blood covenant. Martha’s family and friends are appealing for help to raise funds for reconstructive surgery and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The case has sparked outrage and calls for greater action against domestic violence and acid attacks in Ghana.
