A daring theft attempt ended in tragedy when an unidentified man was electrocuted to death in Suhyen, Eastern Region, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
The young man, believed to be in his 30s, was found lifeless near an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer.
According to Rainbow Radio 87.5FM monitored by News &Vibes, the deceased and his accomplices had been targeting transformers in the area. This incident marks the third transformer theft in the past two months, with previous thefts occurring in Akyease and another community.
The scene revealed tools used by electricians, suggesting that the thieves were prepared for their criminal act. However, their plan took a deadly turn when the young man was electrocuted.
Kankam Twumasi Daniel, Deputy NADMO Director and Assembly member for Gyamfikrom Electoral Area, confirmed that a response team comprising NADMO and Ghana Police Service officers was dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the unidentified man.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of theft and the importance of respecting electrical infrastructure.
