Kofi Akpaloo, the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has made a bold promise to Ghanaians if he becomes President.
According to Akpaloo, his government will pay Ghanaians below 18 years GHS 500 a month and those above 18 years and unemployed GHS 700 a month.
When asked about the source of funding for this ambitious social welfare program, Akpaloo simply stated that they would use cedis to pay and not dollars.
However, he did not provide further details on how his government plans to finance this initiative.
Social media users have reacted with skepticism and humor to Akpaloo’s promise. “Idea wei di3 sloow oo” (This idea is slow), said one user, while another joked, “Lmao if a president decides to implement this policy, a lot of people will become lazy. Provision of jobs for people to work and earn is the way forward, not this idea.”
Others questioned Akpaloo’s motivations, with one user asking, “Harmless question. Is he trying to mimic J.J Rawlings with how he speaks?”
Another user suggested that Akpaloo should share the money he used to file his nomination with the youth instead of making “rubish promises”.
Some users were more critical, with one saying, “This man ankasa he should share the money he used to file his nomination to the youth or do something better with na there’s no way he’s winning.”
Another user alleged that Akpaloo had failed to execute a lucrative ECG contract and was only using his presidential bid to “garner connections for himself”.
Despite the criticism, Akpaloo remains confident that his proposal will resonate with Ghanaians and help him win the presidency. Only time will tell if this bold promise will become a reality.
