Ghanaian comedian and actor, Mr Beautiful, has opened up about his unwavering support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite the personal and professional setbacks he has encountered along the way.
His decision to publicly align himself with the political party caused significant disruptions in his career, including ostracism from his colleagues in the Kumawood film industry.
However, the actor remains resolute, pointing to the unwavering support he received from former President John Mahama and his family as his source of strength during these difficult times.
Mr Beautiful, who has been a vocal supporter of the NDC, revealed that he faced severe opposition from some industry peers, many of whom distanced themselves from him.
Their actions stemmed from concerns that being associated with someone who openly supported the NDC could potentially harm their own careers, particularly in a politically divided entertainment space.
Despite the ostracism, Mr Beautiful found solace in the Mahama family, who embraced him wholeheartedly, providing him with a sense of belonging that he found invaluable.
He vividly recalled an instance that highlighted the extent of the backlash he faced due to his political choices. While in South Africa for work, Mr Beautiful received an opportunity to star in a television commercial.
Excited about the project, he returned to Ghana for the shoot.
However, upon arriving at the location, the marketing director expressed discomfort with Mr Beautiful’s involvement, citing his well-known association with the NDC as a reason for refusing to work with him.
This incident led to the project being cancelled, forcing him to return to South Africa empty-handed. Although disappointed by the lost opportunity, Mr Beautiful accepted the situation without resentment.
What was perhaps most painful for Mr Beautiful was not just the rejection from people within the industry, but the deep alienation from colleagues he had worked closely with for years.
He noted that many actors, fearing a backlash from fans and potential employers, distanced themselves from him. Despite this, he remains undeterred, emphasizing that his bond with the Mahama family brought him great comfort in the face of adversity.
He described the Mahama family as welcoming him with open arms when others had turned their backs, providing a level of support that he cherished greatly.
In reflecting on his experiences, Mr Beautiful affirmed that he has no regrets about his decision to stand by the NDC.
Although it has been a challenging journey, the love and solidarity he found with John Mahama and his family far outweigh the hardships.
For him, the loyalty and acceptance of this unique political family offer something far more meaningful than any career opportunities he may have missed due to his political stance.
