MUSIGA Explains Position on Helping Okomfour Kwadee
Abena Ruthy, the second vice president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has clarified the union’s stance on providing support to hip-hop artist Okomfour Kwadee. Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, she stated that MUSIGA is not obligated to assist Kwadee, as he is not currently a registered member in good standing.
According to Abena Ruthy, there is a common misconception that every artist in Ghana is automatically part of MUSIGA. However, she explained that only members who meet the union’s requirements and maintain good standing are entitled to its support.
Despite this, she noted that MUSIGA had previously extended help to Kwadee and remains willing to do so again purely for humanitarian reasons.
“There was a recent discussion about Kwadee, and he is not even a member now, but our president encouraged us to help him. So, that is what we are doing. We are a family. We are not obligated to help, but we are trying to support him as much as we can,” she stated.
Abena Ruthy further urged artists to officially join MUSIGA to access its full benefits, stressing that membership ensures assistance when needed. She concluded by expressing hope that more artists would come to understand the importance of being part of the union, which serves as a support system for its members.
