Ghanaian musician-turned-politician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has made it clear that his primary focus as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central will be serving the people who voted for him.
A Plus has stated that he will not be swayed by expectations to fight for the interests of the creative industry. Instead, he has emphasized his commitment to delivering results for the people of Gomoa Central.
His electoral victory was rooted in the trust of the people of Gomoa Central, rather than the backing of the creative industry. Major creative bodies, such as the Musicians Union of Ghana and the Film Producers Association of Ghana, did not support him during his campaign.
A Plus’s commitment to prioritizing his constituents’ needs is a welcome development, and his constituents will be eagerly watching to see how he delivers on his promises.
“I want to make it clear that I’m not going to Parliament to fight for the entertainment industry,” he stated. “My sole responsibility is to work diligently and deliver results for the people of Gomoa Central, who believed in me and voted massively to put me in this position.”
“When I was contesting, there wasn’t any collective support from MUSIGA, FIPAG, or any other creative group.”
“It was just a handful of friends in the industry who stood by me. That’s why I’m focused on the people of Gomoa Central, who put their confidence in me, not the creative industry.”
“Players in the creative industry feel too important, even though there are serious challenges they need to address.”
“Shatta Wale has been making a lot of sense. They should listen to him because his ideas could help them.”
