Following an interschool tournament, Suame Technical Institute students are shown vandalizing property at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a video that has gone viral on social media and caused public indignation. Shortly after the games ended, the pupils can be seen throwing stones at classmates from different schools in the widely shared video.
Concerns regarding crowd control and security during school sporting events are raised by the violent episodes that took place in spite of the presence of police officers at the stadium. Students participating in the tournament were not the only ones affected by the disturbance.Stones hurled during the violence apparently injured some members of the public who were not involved in the argument, trapping innocent onlookers in the mayhem.
The video’s accompanying information claims that a miscommunication between students at Suame Technical Institute and another school set off the disturbance, which swiftly turned violent and resulted in property damage. Social media users have widely condemned the incident and urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to swiftly take disciplinary action against the institution.
According to social media users, enforcing fines will help reduce indiscipline at interschool events and act as a deterrence to other schools.
