The Ablekuma North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Musah Kalamu Adamu, has urged students in the municipality to remain disciplined, study hard and pursue excellence.
Addressing a parade of schools to mark the 69th independence anniversary at the AstroTurf facility within the premises of Methodist University Ghana and Wesley Grammar School, Mr Adamu encouraged the students to see education and discipline as the pathway to leadership and success.
The MCE made the occasion historic by wearing a public school uniform which he said smybolised patriorism.
Mr Adamu said the choice of the AstroTurf facility for the celebration was deliberate, urging students to see it as a symbol of opportunity and motivation.
Infrastructure
He also highlighted several educational infrastructure projects initiated within the municipality.
These include the construction of a two-storey six-unit classroom block with an ICT laboratory, staff common room, headteacher’s office, store and a 20-seater WC toilet at the Odorkor McClean Basic School.
Additionally, a two-storey four-unit kindergarten block with a 10-seater WC facility is being constructed at the Darul Hadith Islamic School, while an eight-unit vertical classroom extension with an ICT laboratory, staff common room and headteacher’s office is underway at the Darkuman Junior High School.
Mr Adamu further disclosed that the Assembly planned to procure school furniture across the municipality and construct additional AstroTurf facilities at the Kwashiman and Saleria Cluster of Schools.
Collective efforts
The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, for her part called for collective national effort to build a prosperous Ghana.
She said the national theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” should serve as a reminder for citizens to invest in education, support young people, strengthen communities and uphold the values of hard work and integrity.
Ms Aubynn encouraged the students to take their education seriously and remain disciplined, noting that the youth held the key to the nation’s future, and called for unity, patriotism and peace among citizens.
The Municipal Director of Education, Harriet Lomotey, expressed her appreciation for the support of the assembly and advised students to take learning seriously.
Eighteen schools participated in the parade with Odorkor Basic School winning with 131 points. Odorkor 7 Basic School was the best cadet performer.
