The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, and the Sunyani East Communications Officer of the party, Abubakar Yakubu, have been granted bail by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

Abronye DC was arrested over alleged threats made against a presiding judge at the Adenta Circuit Court, while Baba Amando was picked up over allegations of false publication.

Speaking to journalists after their release in Accra on Monday, April 13, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin urged the police to exercise restraint and tolerance in the discharge of their duties.

The National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, also addressed the media, describing the arrests as politically motivated and aimed at diverting attention from the government’s performance.

He argued that the government is facing increasing pressure due to what he described as unmet promises, including the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, efforts to address unemployment, reducing port-related business costs, and the implementation of the ORAL agenda.

According to him, these challenges have led to what he claims is increased harassment of opposition figures.

The police have not publicly commented on the political allegations, but investigations into the cases are ongoing.
