President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans for a dual-concept airport hotel, designed to serve both ordinary or low budget travelers and high-end travelers alike.

The President was speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the interconnecting concourse at Accra International Airport on Monday, April 27 2026, which forms part of the ongoing aviation infrastructure expansion.. The President outlined a vision that blends inclusivity with modern development.

“There will be a hotel. Half of it will be budget for we the ‘mbobrɔwa’, (which means the part for low budget travelers)  and the other half will be a luxury hotel for those who can afford it,” he said.

The proposed hotel forms part of a broader Terminal 3 upgrade, which includes a seven-storey, 2,000-car capacity multi-storey car park. The development is expected to incorporate retail and dining outlets, alongside a sky-view lounge where visitors can watch aircrafts take off and land.

The dual-concept approach is intended to cater to a wide range of travelers, from budget-conscious passengers to premium clients, while expanding commercial activity within the airport enclave.

Government says, the project will also contribute to job creation and support Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda by increasing non-aeronautical revenue streams.

The initiative forms part of a larger strategy to position Ghana as a competitive aviation hub in West Africa, with infrastructure designed to meet both international standards and local needs.

With construction plans progressing alongside other airport upgrades, the proposed hotel highlights a broader push to combine accessibility and luxury within Ghana’s aviation sector.
