The Accra High Court has issued a firm ultimatum to state prosecutors in the high-profile trial of former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, ordering that all witness statements must be submitted by Monday, May 20, 2025.
This directive followed a heated court session on Tuesday, marked by sharp exchanges between lawyers over what the judge described as repeated procedural setbacks. Presiding judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, made it clear that the court would not permit any further excuses, urging both sides to prepare for a swift and decisive trial.
Adu-Boahene, who served as the head of the NSB, is facing serious charges ranging from the misappropriation of state funds to illegally orchestrated procurement deals. Prosecutors allege that during his tenure, he authorized irregular financial transactions in violation of public procurement laws, thereby putting national resources at risk.
Leading the prosecution is Principal State Attorney Mrs. Evelyn Keelson, who told the court her team is prepared to meet the deadline. Insider sources say key testimony will come from high-ranking officials within the Ministry of National Security and the Auditor-General’s Department, whose evidence could play a decisive role in the trial.
Meanwhile, Adu-Boahene’s defense team insists that their client is innocent and maintains that the allegations are politically driven. His lawyer, Nana Yaw Opoku, expressed full confidence in their case, stating that Adu-Boahene has no fear of the evidence being brought against him.
This case, which has attracted national attention, is seen by many as a test of Ghana’s commitment to accountability within the country’s intelligence and security services. With the prosecution now racing against a court-imposed deadline, all eyes are on what evidence will be revealed and how it could shape the final verdict.
The court is expected to reconvene soon after the May 20 submission, as the nation watches closely for what could be a landmark ruling.
