Accra: Police probe dead body retrieved from Nkrumah Circle drain

The body of an unidentified man, believed to be in his late 20s, has been retrieved from a drainage channel feeding into the Odaw River opposite the Iran Clinic at Asylum Down, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.

According to a report posted on its Facebook page, the Ghana National Fire Service said it received a distress call at about 6:18 am on Wednesday, April 8. 

A rescue team from the Circle Fire Station was promptly dispatched at 06:19 hours and arrived at the scene six minutes later, at 6:25 am.

Swift emergency response

The rescue operation was led by ADO I Richard Helegbe, whose team successfully retrieved the body from the drain.

The deceased, who has not yet been identified, was handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation.

Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, including how long the body may have been in the drain or whether any signs of foul play were observed.
