Accra Zongo Youth Declare War on Drug Dealers – Over 20 Shops Shut Down

In a bold move against the rising drug menace, the youth of Sabon Zongo, Accra, launched a successful crackdown on Sunday, April 20, resulting in the closure of over 20 shops and the confiscation of numerous sacks containing illegal substances such as weed, codeine, and Tramadol.

This operation targeted shops and drug dens suspected of fueling the rampant drug abuse in the area, which has been a growing concern for local residents.

The initiative was led by the No Drugs in Zongo Movement, with local authorities and the Chief Imam granting their support for the operation.

The youth, frustrated with the increase in drug addiction among teenagers and children, decided to take matters into their own hands, determined to rid their community of harmful substances.

Mohammed Ashirir, the Deputy Leader of the movement, expressed that this operation is just the start, and similar crackdowns will continue periodically.

He highlighted that despite the lack of police presence during the operation, the youth were able to overpower the dealers because they are the majority in the community.

Ashirir further warned that any future encounters with individuals selling illegal drugs would result in them being handed over to the authorities for prosecution. The movement is committed to ensuring that Sabon Zongo becomes free of drug-related issues, and the youth are ready to take even more action in their fight against drug abuse in the area.
