Six persons have been put before the Accra Circuit Court for their alleged involvement in the robbery of 12.5kg gold worth GH¢14,387,096 at a jewellery shop located at Adabraka, a suburb of Accra.
The accused persons are alleged to have also bolted away with GH¢400,000 during the robbery spree.
The accused persons are Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata; Alhassan Iliyasu, also known as Arab Man; Hamza Agerego, also known as Lambert or Nene Bowku, and Abdul Samed Bonsiabu Larry, also known as Touch.
The others are Fatao Ibrahim, also known as Motorway, and Abubarkar Sadique, also known as Fifty Cents.
They have been charged with conspiracy to rob and a substantive charge of robbery.
The accused persons have pleaded not guilty to the charges and have been remanded to lawful custody.
This was after the court presided over by Dennis Eyram Benson refused oral bail applications by lawyers for the accused persons.
They are to reappear on April 27, 2026.
Prosecution’s facts
Narrating the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer said on July 27, 2024, the complainant, who is the shop owner, went to the office in the morning and closed at about 5p.m. after the secretary had arrived with cash.
The prosecutor said minutes after the arrival of the secretary, the accused persons who were heavily armed with AK47 assault rifles arrived at the shop on three motorbikes.
“The accused persons forcefully ordered the workers to leave the shop amid firing of gunshots.
“In the process, the accused persons robbed their victims of cash to the sum GH¢400,000.00 and 12.5kg of gold valued GH¢14,387,096.00,” he said.
He added that the accused persons who had already parked and positioned their motorbikes near the scene jumped onto them and fled with the booty as they continued to fire gunshots to scare the victims and residents to run for their lives.
The prosecutor told the court that the case was reported to the police.

Chief Inspector Lawer said in a related development, the police were on the lookout for the accused persons for allegedly committing a similar crime at the same Cabest Jewellery Shop on November 2, 2024.
On November 20, 2025, based on effective intelligence by the police, Mohammed was arrested at Crystal Hospital, Ashaiman.
Further investigation led to the arrest of IIiyasu and Agerego on January 7, 2026 at Ashaiman.
He said a thorough search conducted in the accused persons house led to the retrieval of 43 rounds of AK 47 assault rifle ammunition, 249 BB Cartridges, two pump action guns, four police bullet proof vests, a pair of black police boots and a Gota hand set.
During interrogation, the prosecutor said IIiyasu claimed ownership of the items.
The rest were later arrested in connection with the same case.
The prosecutor said an identification parade was conducted at the forecourt of the CID Headquarters and the accused persons were identified by eye witnesses.
