Former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has suggested that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral defeat was influenced by the controversial demolition of her father’s transport terminal, Imperial Express.
She believes the government’s decision to tear down the terminal contributed to a loss of public support for the party.
Adwoa Safo disclosed that she reached out to then-Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey to seek answers about the demolition.
According to her, Quartey stated that the decision came from higher authorities, implying that it was not a regional directive but a move sanctioned at the national level.
The demolition of Imperial Express, a key transport hub, generated widespread debate. While some viewed it as an administrative decision, others perceived it as politically motivated.
The impact of the action, according to Adwoa Safo, went beyond just the affected businesses—it reportedly alienated voters, which she believes played a role in the party’s struggles at the polls.
This incident has reignited discussions about governance decisions that could have unintended political consequences. Analysts suggest that such moves, if not properly handled, may erode public confidence in a ruling party.
As the NPP reflects on its electoral loss, Adwoa Safo’s remarks add another dimension to the party’s internal conversations about what went wrong and how it can regain lost ground in future elections.
