The Accra Financial Centre (AFC), a major hub for banking and financial services in the capital, has organised a two-day ‘Ghana Month Bazaar’ in a novel bid to connect its tenants with clients and promote their made-in-Ghana products and services.
Some 20 vendors and exhibitors, all small business enterprises and clients of tenants at Accra Financial Centre, pitched camp on the forecourt of the eight-storey AFC building, and showcased a wide variety of products last Thursday and Friday.
Over the two days, vendors displayed and sold locally made products, mostly in the categories of food, clothing and fashion accessories from morning till close of business.
With DJ music and cultural performances as an attraction, patronage extended beyond the staff of tenants in the AFC building, to employees from neighbouring institutions as well as commuters.
Owned by Agridev Real Estate Limited and managed by Broll Ghana, AFC is a mixed-use development, located at the intersection of Independence and Liberia Avenues, in the heart of Accra’s business district and offers 13,700sq metres of A Grade office space and 314sq metres of retail space with 369 parking bays.
Attraction
Oblayo mix, Koosey powder, Buff Loaf (Boflot) powder and Tigernut-rice mix powder are among their inventory of home-made quick meals.
Another major attraction was ‘Mother’s Kitchen’ , a two-year-old family business which produces packaged palm mix for palm soup.
‘We are a small business but our vision is to grow big.
Although lots of people buy our product for travel overseas, we are not really known in the bigger market.
We have come here to showcase our product and being here for just two days has given Mother’s Kitchen Palm Mix considerable exposure,” said Enoch Sarpong, Marketing Manager.
Impact
Another exciting food vendor was ‘Minash Fishhouse,’ dealers in fresh, as well as packaged, ready-to-eat fish products while ‘Repeto Drinkz’, another family business, made good business throughout the two days offering bottled natural fruit juices in six different flavours.
Other participant vendors were TrashX, manufacturers of synthetic trash bags for use in automobiles, ‘Julie Beads’ a highly talented bead accessory specialist based in Tema, ‘Row Leather Works’ and ‘Nkoala Limited’ manufacturers of natural skin care products and handmade toys.
“March being Ghana’s Month, with all the focus on promoting what is made here in our country, we thought it worthy to create a platform for the clients of our tenants to showcase their produce as a way of supporting small businesses and strengthening the bond between our tenants and their clients,” said Janet Adwoa Ghartey, Senior Property Manager at AFC.
