The Member of Parliament for Afram Plains South, Joseph Appiah Boateng, has said the administration of John Dramani Mahama has delivered stronger results across key sectors of the economy compared with the previous government.
Contributing to the debate on the President’s State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Tuesday, March 10, the legislator cited improvements in infrastructure development, agriculture, public finance management and economic stability as evidence of what he described as a different approach to governance.
Mr Boateng told the House that a number of development projects currently underway in his constituency demonstrated the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities for residents.
He mentioned road projects linking communities such as Adawso to Ekye Bridge, Amanfrom to Agodeke, and Kwame Oppong Nkwanta to Akyem Agogo as examples of interventions aimed at improving transport and market access for farmers and traders. According to him, the projects were at various stages of completion and would help ease the movement of people and goods when finished.
The MP expressed optimism that the completion of the projects would open up previously underserved communities in the constituency and help reduce the hardship residents had endured over the years.
He added that construction of an ultra-modern farmers’ centre in the constituency was progressing and would provide farmers with technical support, training and storage facilities once completed.
Touching on public finance management, the legislator indicated that Afram Plains South had recently received a significant increase in development funding, enabling several stalled projects to resume. He also said statutory payments to district assemblies had been made regularly, allowing assembly members to perform their duties more effectively.
“President Mahama has demonstrated strong commitment to development in Afram Plains South. Over GHS18 million has been allocated to Afram Plains South for developmental projects – an immense improvement compared to the GHS300,000 received in 2024 under the previous Akufo-Addo-led government. Clearly, the President is working diligently for the good of the people. It therefore raises questions as to why some individuals continue to undermine and dishonor the efforts his efforts. One must ask – why the persistent opposition to every positive step taken by this administration?” he quizzed.
Mr Boateng further cited what he described as improvements in the broader economy, including reductions in fuel and food prices, a more stable currency and the absence of recent nationwide power disruptions.
“The cost of doing business has reduced, and ordinary people are beginning to feel some relief,” he said.
The MP also referred to peaceful by-elections and the timely payment of allowances to assembly members as signs of improving governance and political stability. He urged members of the Minority in Parliament to acknowledge what he described as the economic progress being made under President Mahama.
