The Paramount Chief of Agogo Traditional Council, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, has passed away after reigning for over five decades.

The news was formally relayed to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on March 26, 2026, by a delegation led by Nana Afrakomah Serwaah Kusi Oboadum at the Manhyia Palace.

His 51-year reign ended on February 24 when he joined his ancestors at the age of 87.

Members of the delegation that informed the King included Kontihene, Adontenghene, Akwamuhene, Nifahene, Benkumhene, Ankobeahene and Gyaasehene.

Otumfuo gave permission for the news to be communicated to residents of the Traditional Area.

His Majesty further directed the kingmakers to assist the Queen as caretaker of the Traditional Area and in making the requisite arrangements for the burial and any other rites.

“You can’t bypass her in doing anything. Consult her first before making any decision. Don’t act autonomously. Nanahemaa must be involved in everything. Whatever arrangements are decided by the kingmakers must be communicated to me by the Queen. The Queen must not override the kingmakers with her authority.”

The late traditional ruler was born on August 11, 1938, in Agogo, Ashanti Region, Ghana.

He attended Methodist and Presbyterian Primary Schools, Accra Academy, and Opoku Ware School before enrolling at the University of Ghana for a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics, sociology, law, and political science.
