Agradaa Loses First Round in GH¢20 Million Legal Showdown With Empress Gifty

Evangelist Patricia Asiamah, popularly known as Agradaa, has suffered a legal setback after a Tema High Court dismissed her request to strike out a GH¢20 million defamation suit filed by gospel artist Empress Gifty. The court not only rejected the application but also imposed a GH¢6,000 fine for delaying proceedings.

The penalty stemmed from a missed court session by Agradaa’s legal team, which previously cited issues with court document service. Their absence led to unnecessary delays, prompting the judge to fine the controversial evangelist for wasting the court’s time.

Adding to Agradaa’s woes, the court also issued a temporary injunction, prohibiting her from making any further statements—online or offline—about Empress Gifty. This includes mentions or defamatory remarks across social media platforms, where the feud originally gained traction.

The defamation case arose from a livestream broadcast on May 13, 2025, during which Agradaa allegedly made damaging and inappropriate claims about Empress Gifty involving religious figures. Empress Gifty subsequently filed the suit on May 20, demanding GH¢20 million in compensation and a permanent gag order to halt further defamation. She also asked the court to compel Agradaa to delete all offensive content from digital channels.

The case is heating up further, as reports have emerged that Agradaa insulted a lawyer involved in the matter. A formal letter demanding a retraction and public apology has already been sent in response.

With the court clearing preliminary obstacles, the case will resume on July 16, 2025, when the main trial proceedings begin.
