Kumawood actor Clement Bonney, widely known as Mr Beautiful, recently opened up about the strained relationship he had with fellow actor Agya Koo, revealing that Agya Koo harboured animosity towards him due to fear of being overshadowed.
In an interview on Angel FM monitored by News & Vibes, Mr Beautiful explained that this rivalry, along with other issues, contributed to the decline of the Kumawood industry.
According to Mr Beautiful, Agya Koo, a major figure in local Ghanaian movies, initially welcomed him into the industry.
However, as Mr Beautiful’s popularity began to grow, Agya Koo reportedly saw him as a threat. “Agya Koo believed his dominance in the industry was under threat when I emerged,” he said.
Despite Agya Koo’s early contribution to the industry’s success, Mr Beautiful claimed that pride became an issue, with Agya Koo demanding to control the casting process, which ultimately created division.
Mr Beautiful recounted how their collaboration in the film Sika Anibre was a great success, but tensions arose during the planning of their next project, Otoo Tabaa.
Agya Koo allegedly refused to participate unless Mr Beautiful was removed from the cast, prompting producers to make changes, which disrupted the production.
The actor expressed that Agya Koo’s actions were rooted in a desire to maintain his monopoly within the industry, and this ultimately led to resentment and efforts to sabotage his rising fame.
Mr Beautiful believes that this type of behaviour played a part in the industry’s eventual struggles, as internal conflicts eroded its foundations.
This revelation sheds light on the internal dynamics of the Kumawood industry, highlighting how personal rivalries and power struggles among top actors may have contributed to its decline.
