Head Coach of Kenyan giants Gor Mahia, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has set his sights on winning the Kenyan Premier League title this season while also targeting success in the domestic FA Cup.

The former Ghana international revealed his ambitions in an interview with Graphic Sports, expressing confidence in the progress the team has made under his leadership.

According to Akonnor, his tenure at the club had started on a positive note, thanks largely to the strong backing he had received from management and stakeholders.

“So far things are going on right, and we are targeting the league title and the FA Cup,” he stated.

Gor Mahia have established themselves as strong title contenders this season, opening up a commanding lead at the top of the table. The record Kenyan champions currently sit on 43 points after 20 matches, six points ahead of their closest rivals, AFC Leopards.

Akonnor believes the team’s current form and unity could be key in their quest for silverware, especially after narrowly missing out on the title last season.

Gor Mahia finished second in the previous campaign behind Kenyan Police FC, a result the coach says has provided extra motivation for the squad.

The former Black Stars coach emphasised that lessons from last season had shaped the team’s mindset, with players determined to go one step further this time around.

He added that consistency and discipline would be crucial as the season entered its decisive phase.

Beyond the league, Akonnor is also eyeing a domestic double, stressing that the FA Cup remains a major priority.

He noted that winning multiple trophies would not only restore Gor Mahia’s dominance in Kenyan football but also strengthen the club’s reputation on the continental stage.

With Gor Mahia enjoying a healthy lead and building momentum, Akonnor remains optimistic that sustained hard work and focus will see the club reclaim the league crown and possibly end the season with multiple titles.
